GOD’S GREAT LAW OF LOVE
Psalms 19:7
The law of the LORD [is] per
Our understanding of the law in Galatians must be in harmony with all the other epistles written by the same author (Paul) and must harmonise with the words of Christ and the other writers of Scripture.
The principles of the plan of salvation are consistent all the way through Scripture — from Genesis to Revelation. To suggest otherwise would be to discredit our omnipotent loving heavenly Father, Creator and Redeemer. A good law gives those who are governed by it, both protection and the responsibility to allow other persons the same protection. This is the Golden Rule — “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” Christ also said “Love God supremely and your neighbour as yourself.”
The first four commandments define our duty to our Creator, and the last six define our duty to our fellow beings.—see Exodus 20.
Those who are tempted to think that the law is no longer relevant, should consider the results of a lawless society. Insecurity and chaos are the results of poor or no laws.
State traffic laws only give protection when they are obeyed. To ignore them by driving a vehicle on the wrong side of the road, would bring condemnation and bondage; such as fines, imprisonment and at times suffering or death.
Freedom from the condemnation of the law is only realised by obedience to its principles.
There can be no stable government without good stable laws. The law is a blessing to those who abide by it, as they are not under the condemnation of the law. They are free while ever they are in harmony with that law. Those who are under condemnation of the law are those who choose to violate its principles.
Some wish to be protected by the law from thieves, murderers, adulterers and liars etc., but are not willing to be controlled themselves; they claim the law to be a burdensome yoke!
I John 3:4 “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.”
If we take the position that the law has been done away with in this Christian dispensation, we also must take the position that there is no “Sin”; for sin is transgressing the Law. If there is no sin; every person must be perfect. Why then do we need a Saviour? A little reflection shows that this position is false.
II Timothy 3:16-17 “All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”
II Timothy 4:1-4 “I charge [thee] therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away [their] ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”
Proverbs 28:13 “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh [them] shall have mercy.”
Isaiah 8:20 “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, [it is] because [there is] no light in them.”
Matthew 5:17-18 “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.”
Note:- To fulfil means to keep, or carry out: Fulfil a promise or duty.
Obviously in the above text, the meaning is directly the opposite of destroy, which could mean establish, confirm, protect, support, uphold.
Matthew 5:48 “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”
Luke 16:17 “And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.”
Romans 2:12-13 “For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law; (For not the hearers of the law [are] just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.”
Romans 3:31 “Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.”
Romans 6:12-14 “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members [as] instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members [as] instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.”
Romans 6:15-18 “What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.”
Romans 6:22-23 “But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. For the wages of sin [is] death; but the gift of God [is] eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 7:1 “Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?”
Romans 7:7 “What shall we say then? [is] the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.”
Romans 7:12 “Wherefore the law [is] holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.”
II Corinthians 13:11 “Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.”
Ephesians 4:13 “Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:”
Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
Colossians 3:9-10 “Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new [man], which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:”
II Timothy 3:17 “That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”
Hebrews 5:9 “And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;”
Hebrews 10:26-27 “For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.”
James 1:25 “But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth [therein], he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.”
James 2:10 “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one [point], he is guilty of all.”
James 2:12 “So speak ye, and so do as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.”
James 2:20-21 “But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?”
James 2:22-24 “Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.”
James 2:26 “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”
I John 2:3-4 “And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.”
II John 1:6 “And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.”
Revelation 14:12 “Here is the patience of the saints: here [are] they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.”
Rev.22:14 “Blessed [are] they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.”
This is the fulfilment of God’s Law of Love.
The greatest conspiracy the Universe has ever experienced is Satan’s attack on the foundation of God’s government in an attempt to take control. As this attempt failed in Heaven, he continues his attack on God’s government on planet Earth involving you & me.
According to Scripture, the foundation of God’s government is His Unchangeable Law. The attack has been directed at the heart of the Ten Commandments which contains God’s Seal. A monarch’s Seal contains the monarch’s ‘Name’, ‘Domain’ and ‘Authority’. These are found in the Fourth Commandment:—
Exodus 20:8-11 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day [is] the Sabbath of the LORD thy God: [in it] thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that [is] within thy gates: For [in] six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them [is], and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it.”
Gen.2:2-3 “And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it He had rested from all His work which God created and made” God commands mankind to “remember” and “keep holy” the Seventh day Sabbath as the Memorial of creation by Him. To keep any other day instead of the seventh, would be to ignore the authority of God the Creator. — see Daniel 7:25 and Revelation 13:17,18
Isaiah 8:16 “. . . . seal the law among my disciples.”
